Although the fileserver managed to run stably for almost three days, last night it degenerated into frequent crashes once again. I am not sure what the stimulation for these crashes is/are. It seems to me now that the motherboard is also faulty. I am imagining a chain of events where the surge protector failed, overloaded the power supply and damaged the motherboard. I hope it didn't go any further than this. I qualify this assertion by stating once more I really have no exact idea of what is causing the crashes I have been chasing through my system.
I think the fileserver will remain stagnant and crash-y for now, as we do not have the funds necessary to afford a replacement motherboard. However, some time in the future this issue will be revisited.
